JASIN, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government has channeled grants totalling about 170.81 million to 8,366 recipients under the Young Agropreneuer programme nationwide from January 2016 until November this year.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah said the grants cover crops, fisheries, livestock, food and agro-based industries through departments and agencies under his ministry.
"The Young Agropreneur program was created for young people between the ages of 18 and 40 years and aimed at assisting and encouraging their involvement in agro-entrepreneurship based on all activities along the value chain of the agricultural sector.
“The programme was also created to change the perception of the young people towards the agriculture sector in addition to increasing revenue through increased productivity, product quality, use of technology and innovation as well as creating competitive markets," he told reporters in Sungai Rambai here today.
Earlier, Ahmad handed over Young Agropreneur grants, equipment aid incentives to MYGAP recipients in conjunction with the Sentuhan Masyarakat Aspirasi PKNM Bersama Keluarga Malaysia 2022 programme..
According to Ahmad, incentives was also a way to encourage the youths to increase their production and agricultural products that would eventually boost their income.
"We can see that many of the youths are interested in the agricultural field besides some of them have the expertise and indirectly they can apply modern agricultural technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) to increase productivity and have better efficiency," he said.
He added that in Melaka, more than RM519,000 have been channeled to 26 Young Agropreneur recipients this year.
