KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- All Malaysian citizens aged 60 and above will be exempted from the entrance fee to the Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG) starting March 21, 2023.
Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in a statement said it was announced by FRIM director-general Dr Ismail Parlan at the launching of a talk series on wetlands at FRIM research gallery, Kepong, yesterday.
Ismail also announced that the entrance fee to KBG will be waived for all visitors on selected forestry and environmental-related days such as International Day of Forests (IDF) on March 21, International Day for Biological Diversity (May 20) and World Environment Day on June 5.
Meanwhile, FRIM said today’s talk which was held in conjunction with World Wetlands Day celebrated annually on Feb 2, was attended by 30 participants, aged between 8 and 69 years.
The talk entitled, 'No Wetlands, No Seafood?', is to highlight the importance of wetland conservation.
FRIM mangrove forest expert, Tariq Mubarak Husin who took part in the discussion said there is a need for wetland conservation for the continued benefits of the ecosystem, not only for food security, but also for coastal protection, erosion control, flood regulation, carbon storage, livelihood and ecotourism.
This is the first session in a series of talks by FRIM researchers this year.
The subsequent talks will be held in conjunction with IDF in March 2023; Earth Day (April 2023); International Day for Biological Diversity (May 2023); and World Firefly Day (July 2023).
